Full Central Vietnam Motorcycle Tour Loop

This motorbike tour is our most comprehensive tour in Central Vietnam, giving you a real insight into the culture and a proper adventure of a lifetime.
DAY 1:  HOI AN MOTORCYCLE TOUR TO HUE (THE COAST ROAD)

We drive the coast road along Da Nang Beach, stopping for drinks by the beach before heading up and over the Hai Van Pass, the highest point on Highway 1. We ride on big open windy roads where traffic is rare, enjoying some of the most scenic landscapes in Vietnam. We stop at Lang Co beach for a seafood lunch and continue along the coast through small fishing communities before arriving in the historic capital of Hue. Dinner is a unique experience dining on the famous specialties of Hue cuisine.

DAY 2: HUE MOTORBIKE PACKAGE TOUR

With a full day in Hue, the former imperial capital of Vietnam, we take time to find the best this historic city has to offer. Our motorbike tour takes in the citadel and royal tombs while snaking through the back streets of Hue. A delicious vegetarian lunch prepared by Buddhist nuns is served at a local pagoda. After lunch we experience the rural surrounds of Hue, stopping to see traditional handicrafts being made as well as visiting some US war sites.

DAY 3: HUE MOTORCYCLE TOUR TO PHONG NHA (TUNNELS AND TRAILS)

After an early start, we take small country roads up the coast. Crossing the former border between North and South Vietnam at the 17th parallel, we arrive at the Vinh Moc tunnels, where an entire village went underground in the 1960s to survive the bombing. After exploring the tunnels, we head to a local beach where you can cool off with a swim followed by lunch. We then head away from the coast on the eastern branch of the Ho Chi Minh Highway to Phong Nha-Khe Bang national park.
Tonight’s accommodation is in a newly built family-run farm-stay retreat where you can talk freely to the locals about their wartime experiences.

DAY 4: PHONG NHA ADVENTURE MOTORBIKE TOUR

Awake to the sounds of rural Vietnam. With a day free to explore Phong Nha national park, we take a morning boat ride into the magnificent Phong Nha limestone cave, the second-longest wet limestone caves in the world, followed by a local lunch and an afternoon of tubing, kayaking or trekking through this amazing old-growth rainforest.

DAY 5: PHONG NHA MOTORCYCLE TOUR TO KHE SANH (HO CHI MINH TRAIL)

Today’s ride is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Obtaining special military permission, we are able to drive the remote western branch of the Ho Chi Minh Highway through majestic limestone karst and spectacular old-growth jungle. Be amazed at the tenacity of the Vietnamese people during the US war, as this road follows the original HCM Trail through some of the most rugged terrain on Earth.
Arriving in Khe Sanh, we visit the site of the former marine combat base, capping off an amazing day of riding and history.

DAY 6: KHE SANH MOTORCYCLE TOUR TO PRAO VIA A LUOI (HILL TRIBE COUNTRY)

Leaving Khe Sanh early, we cross the Cuban-built Da Krong bridge, where the stilt houses of hill tribes still line the road. After climbing up to the A Shau valley, where Colin Powell was injured by a punji stick during the war. After a picnic lunch at the foothills of Hamburger Hill, we continue along one of the more remote stretches of the HCM Highway to the ethnic minority town of Prao. A local dinner is an experience in itself.

DAY 7: PRAO MOTORCYCLE TOUR TO HOI AN

We take a small road out of Prao, passing ethnic tribes and stopping to swim and explore the villages as we descend from the mountains.
Once in the delta, we follow our famous country laneway route into Hoi An, completing a seven-day grand loop of central Vietnam.

Optional Abseiling at Marble Mountain on day 7:
We walk up Marble Mountain into the rappelling area, which takes about 10 to 15 minutes.
The first rappel is a short walk from the practice area and enjoys a fantastic view of the ocean. This 22 meter line has great exposure, fantastic scenery and makes you feel like you are much higher than you actually are.
Then we do our final rappel; a monster 50 meter drop into a gaping hole so deep and dark that you can’t see the bottom. This fantastic cave rappel drops right out of the jungle down into a temple chamber. Get ready for a full on Tomb Raider experience!

Dalat is known as “The City of Love” and is a favorite holiday resort for Vietnamese as well as the French. With evergreen forests, waterfalls, beautiful lakes, the country’s best flower gardens, and delicious fresh produce, Dalat has always provided a welcome respite from the heat of the lowlands.  We can spend the day riding to visit the highlights of Dalat with Lang Biang plateau, its gardens, cathedral, waterfalls, market, Valley of Love, convent, university and key pagodas.

DAY 4: DALAT  – LAK LAKE – BUON MA THUOT

This morning, after having breakfast we’ll continue riding onward to Buon Ma Thuot.  The road is narrow, winding, but not busy.  We have three passes to cross – Krong No, Chuoi,  and Phu Son. The drive itself is quite beautiful and lined with dense forests

After having lunch in Lak Lake, we’ll take an offroad motor-ride to Lak Lake on Road 27, a small paved road with poor surfacing and quite busy. Here we can have a break for refreshment and troll around the by the lake. There are said to be about 31 different ethnic groups in Dac Lac, each with their own traditional dress and customs.  Some of the villages are known for elephant hunting and taming, some for weaving and other arts. Finally, we’ll ride back to Buon Ma Thuot city for an overnight

DAY 5: BUON ME THUOT MOTORCYCLE TOUR TO PLEIKU – KON TUM

After having breakfast at hotel, we need a time to stop by a coffee shop or Buon Ma Thuot - Ho Chi Minh on trails motorbike toursbar to drink a cup of the best coffee in Vietnam before setting off another ride to Pleiku because Buon Ma Thuot is so well-known as a Kingdom of coffee not only in Vietnam but also in the world.

We then will follow the Highway 14 to ride straight to Kon Tum via Pleiku. Along the road, we’ll keep on viewing endless coffee plantations on the Central Highland with peaceful villages located on the roadsides.

Lunch at Pleiku, From here, we ride along the Tun River and up over a pass to Kon Tum. Along the way are coffee plantations and the stilt houses of the Central Highland’s largest ethnic group of the Gia Rai.

In Kon Tum we can visit the Catholic church and the orphanage, based behind the Catholic Church in town and run by a group of French nuns. If time permits, you can also visit a beautiful Bahnar village near town.

DAY 6: KON TUM MOTORBIKE TOUR TO HOI AN VIA MY SON SANCTUARY

After breakfast in local restaurant we continue riding north on Highway 14 Central Vietnam - Ho Chi Minh on trails with motorbiketoday on a bit of a bumpy section of the road to Kham Duc.

Today is really a day to visit different minority villages. We will ride over Lo Xo Pass, making lots of stops along the way to meet De and Trieng minorities, who live along the Dak Po Ko river. Along the river are many amazing hanging bridges, built by the local people to cross to the opposite shore.  Lunch will be in Tan Canh, and we can visit a village of Se Dang

After having lunch, we’ll keep on rolling on the highway to Hoi An and on the way, we’ll stop by to visit My Son, a world heritage site that is the Cham version of Angkor Wat. Most of the temples are dedicated to the Hindu god, Shiva, considered by the Cham as the founder and protector of their dynasties.

We then get to hotel in Hoi An for a check-in

DAY 7: SOUTH TO NORTH MOTORBIKE PACKAGES: HOIAN – FREE AT LEISURE

Hoi An, nestled on the banks of the Thu Bon River.  Before the river silted up, Hoi An was one of the most important trading ports in Southeast Asia, and a center for East-West exchange and trade. The rooftops of Hoian retain a magical old world Oriental feel and are a favorite subject for Vietnamese artists.  In the early 1980s Hoian’s ancient quarters and historical monuments came under the protection and restoration efforts of UNESCO and the Polish government.

Those who wish can ride up to Da Nang Beach, where US marines first landed, otherwise enjoy a free day to explore Hoi An by foot or by motorbike taxi. With fine wining and dining (including a range of Hoi An specialties), impressive architecture, fantastic tailoring, endless shopping, and a glorious beach, there is no shortage of activities to indulge in.

DAY 8: HUE – DA NANG – HOI AN (150 KM – 5 HOURS OF RIDING)

In this morning, we will keep on riding along the coastal line via Da Nang then Central - Ho Chi Minh on trails with motorbikeHai Van Pass, where we could look down from the top to view the splendid beauties of Lang Co beach and ocean then time to refresh yourself by a cup of coffee before heading straight to Hue

Upon arrival in Hue, you will have to time to ride around this ancient citadel to explore some highlights with Imperial Citadel and Royal Tombs or boat trip on Perfume Pagoda.

DAY 9: HUE MOTORBIKE TOUR TO DMZ & KHE SANH

Departing from Hue we ride along highway 1 to Quang Tri town, visiting hue - Ho Chi Minh on trails with motorbikeLong Hung Church and Quang Tri Old Citadel which was a battlefield in 1972 between North and South Vietnam for 81 days and nights.

Then, we will ride along the coast from Cua Viet Beach to Cua Tung Beach a long stretch of beautiful and peaceful coastline. Next we visit the Vinh Moc tunnels and explore the Demilitarised Zone, stopping for lunch at the Doc Mieu Firebase.

In the afternoon we will have short stop at Truong Son cemetary to pay respects to the soldiers who fought and died on the trail during the American War. Continuing west on highway 9, we will climb into the Truong Son foothills, pass the Rock Pile and stop at some villages and beautiful natural springs and waterfalls near the highway.

Approx 5pm we arrive in Khe Sanh which was established as a forward base by General Westmoreland near Laos to secure highway 9. Check in to hotel, free time at night.

DAY 10: KHE SANH TO PHONG NHA CAVES

After breakfast visit the Khe Sanh combat base, then we ride the west Phong Nha - Ho Chi Minh on trails with motorbikeHo Chi Minh trail, today you have the chance to see the real trail with its mind-blowing, spectacular scenery – lots of jungle, mountains, waterfalls and villages of the Paco and Van Kieu Minorities.

We will ride through the Sa Mu pass, se pang heng river, Lang Ho village, U bo pass, areas made famous in the American war.

Many minorities, including the White Thai ethnic group, live in Mai Chau. Tonight we stay in a traditional Thai stilt house in one of the villages and you have the option of attending a Thai folk show.

We arrive at the Vinh Moc tunnels, where an entire village went underground in the 1960s to survive the bombing. After exploring the tunnels, we head to a local beach where you can cool off with a swim.

DAY 1: HOI AN MOTORCYCLE TOUR TO BA HOM

We set off from Hoi An this morning on what promises to be an unforgettable voyage of rugged roads, rustic villages and stunning highlands. Pack your sense of adventure and leave behind those preconceived notions of touristy villages: this Motorbike journey is the real deal. With the wind in your hair, we zip through the Hoi An countryside to Marble Mountain where the thrill-lovers among us can opt for an abseiling adventure into Hell’s Cave. We then head west and climb our way into the mountains.
Midday we’ll arrive at Ba Hom, a traditional Co Tu village where we will stay for the night. Little has changed in the past hundred years in Ba Hom and it is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of Central Vietnam. A light trek through the village outskirts takes us over the Ho Chi Minh Trail to a set of therapeutic hot springs where we can go for a refreshing dip. The evening is highlighted by a superb dinner of Co Tu traditional dishes and a chance to interact with the villagers, gaining more insight into their rich culture. Afterwards, retreat to your stilted Co Tu hut where the serene setting and clear mountain air will lull you to sleep.

DAY 2: BA HOM MOTORCYCLE TOUR TO HUE

Day two of your motorbike adventure begins with breakfast in the village and a chance to watch the morning activities of the Co Tu. Bidding farewell to our hosts, its then back on the bikes to resume our adventure through the rugged highlands of Central Vietnam. The landscape continues to change as we make our way to the flatlands, passing through A Shau valley- an area that played a key role during the American war- and then catching glimpses of the iconic Perfume River from the hills. We cruise into Hue’s centre in the early evening.

DAY 3: HUE MOTORCYCLE TOUR TO HOI AN VIA HAI VAN PASS

Rise and shine, it’s time to set off on the final day of our Motorbike Adventure. Today’s bike journey takes us back to Hoi An but by a different route, trading in the mountains for the famed Vietnam coastline.
We head east from Hue and then travel parallel to the sea, passing through fishing villages and along pristine sandy beaches for the first part of the drive. The salty air and refreshing sea breezes are a dramatic contrast to the mountain air from the previous days. We’ll stop often to dip our toes in the sea, chat with fishermen and to take photos. At the half way point of our drive we climb to Highway 1’s highest point, Hai Van Pass, where panoramic views of the coast are all around. The road then winds down toward Hoi An, passing through Danang city and the famed My Khe and Non Nuoc Beach along Danang coastline.

We walk up Marble Mountain into the rappelling area, which takes about 10 to 15 minutes.
The first rappel is a short walk from the practice area and enjoys a fantastic view of the ocean. This 22 meter line has great exposure, fantastic scenery and makes you feel like you are much higher than you actually are.
Then we do our final rappel; a monster 50 meter drop into a gaping hole so deep and dark that you can’t see the bottom. This fantastic cave rappel drops right out of the jungle down into a temple chamber.

This morning, after having breakfast we’ll continue riding onward to Buon Ma Thuot.  The road is narrow, winding, but not busy.  We have three passes to cross – Krong No, Chuoi,  and Phu Son. The drive itself is quite beautiful and lined with dense forests

After having lunch in Lak Lake, we’ll take an offroad motor-ride to Lak Lake on Road 27, a small paved road with poor surfacing and quite busy. Here we can have a break for refreshment and troll around the by the lake. There are said to be about 31 different ethnic groups in Dac Lac, each with their own traditional dress and customs.  Some of the villages are known for elephant hunting and taming, some for weaving and other arts. Finally, we’ll ride back to Buon Ma Thuot city for an overnight

DAY 5: BUON ME THUOT MOTORCYCLE TOUR TO PLEIKU – KON TUM

Today is really a day to visit different minority villages. We will ride over Lo Xo Pass, making lots of stops along the way to meet De and Trieng minorities, who live along the Dak Po Ko river. Along the river are many amazing hanging bridges, built by the local people to cross to the opposite shore.  Lunch will be in Tan Canh, and we can visit a village of Se Dang

After having lunch, we’ll keep on rolling on the highway to Hoi An and on the way, we’ll stop by to visit My Son, a world heritage site that is the Cham version of Angkor Wat. Most of the temples are dedicated to the Hindu god, Shiva, considered by the Cham as the founder and protector of their dynasties.

Those who wish can ride up to Da Nang Beach, where US marines first landed, otherwise enjoy a free day to explore Hoi An by foot or by motorbike taxi. Departing from Hue we ride along highway 1 to Quang Tri town, visiting hue - Ho Chi Minh on trails with motorbikeLong Hung Church and Quang Tri Old Citadel which was a battlefield in 1972 between North and South Vietnam for 81 days and nights.

Then, we will ride along the coast from Cua Viet Beach to Cua Tung Beach a long stretch of beautiful and peaceful coastline. Next we visit the Vinh Moc tunnels and explore the Demilitarised Zone, stopping for lunch at the Doc Mieu Firebase.

In the afternoon we will have short stop at Truong Son cemetary to pay respects to the soldiers who fought and died on the trail during the American War. Continuing west on highway 9, we will climb into the Truong Son foothills, pass the Rock Pile and stop at some villages and beautiful natural springs and waterfalls near the highway.

Approx 5pm we arrive in Khe Sanh which was established as a forward base by General Westmoreland near Laos to secure highway 9. Check in to hotel, free time at night.

Hoi An to Hai Van Pass with motorbike tour

We then follow small country laneways around Danang before we head up the steep slopes of the Son Tra peninsula, otherwise known as Monkey Mountain. We ride the narrow road that snakes around the mountain, offering grand views of the sea, China Beach, Danang, the Hai Van Pass and the Truong Son range.

HOI AN MOTORCYCLE TOUR TO HAI VAN PASS

Start our motorbike tour by leaving Hoi An, on our way out of town, we visit a Cham temple and a former US warHai van base. We then follow small country laneways around Danang before we head up the steep slopes of the Son Tra peninsula, otherwise known as Monkey Mountain. We ride the narrow road that snakes around the mountain, offering grand views of the sea, Da Nang Beach, the Hai Van Pass and the Truong Son range. We enjoy a picnic lunch with scenic views at the highest point, 696m. Looping around the other side of the mountain, we visit a pagoda with the country’s
biggest Buddha statue, and see colourful fishing boats being repaired along the coast. Before our return, we enter the sacred Marble Mountains, where we can explore the caves or take an optional abseil into the temple at Hell’s Cave.

Optional Abseiling at Marble Mountain:
We walk up Marble Mountain into the rappelling area, which takes about 10 to 15 minutes.
The first rappel is a short walk from the practice area and enjoys a fantastic view of the ocean. This 22 meter line has great exposure, fantastic scenery and makes you feel like you are much higher than you actually are.
Then we do our final rappel; a monster 50 meter drop into a gaping hole so deep and dark that you can’t see the bottom. This fantastic cave rappel drops right out of the jungle down into a temple chamber. Get ready for a full on Tomb Raider experience!
